The pier & trail committee has spoken to the Dept. of Environmental Protection and Resource Management (DEPRM) about putting a walking trail through the protected area back by the water of our community. They have also spoken to DEPRM about putting in a pier for the community. Roy List, DEPRM of Baltimore County, relayed to the community that they would welcome a trail through the protected area, but it must be mapped on the plat in conjunction with the approval of DEPRM. The trail can be approx. 5' wide and can be surfaced with a pervious surface, such as mulch. We are currently looking at different trail layouts to benefit the entire community and to be sure of easy access to the trail without disturbing community members' private property. The community is considered one huge lot by DEPRM and is therefore entitled to one pier on the property. The pier can be 6' wide, can extend out 100' and can contain a 200 sf platform within the pier. We are currently going over options of the best placement for the pier. DEPRM also stated that we are allowed 6 pilons and 2 osprey poles, which could allow for a small number of boat slips. We have also been notified that we could request to have additional pilons to allow for more boat slips, but that the request must go to the DEPRM of the State of Maryland for that approval. We could also request from the DEPRM of the State of Maryland to have more than one community pier. Currently, the budget does not allow for any funds to be used for these projects, however, we intend to apply for a government grant for this project in July 2004, which could grant funds up to $10,000 for the projects. We will keep everyone up to date on any new information that we have on the process. |
