GROUNDS/BEAUTIFICATION

HOA AREAS
There are areas throughout the community that are not under contract for maintenance for grass cutting, due to the budget this year.  If your property is one that has a common area near you we are asking for assistance in maintenance.  If you are able to cut this grass it would be appreciated by all. (Especially with mosquito season starting) Some areas for example are the homes that are along the blacktop pathways on Greencove and Sandwood, homes that back to Morse Lane, etc.  If you are near these areas but cannot assist, please call Erika to advise.  If there are any volunteers throughout the community that would be willing to help, please call Erika. Or if you have an area in question that is not being maintained, please call Erika to report and advise if it is HOA common area.  We appreciate your assistance.

 ADOPT-A-ROAD

 The Grounds & Beautification Committee has adopted a one mile area along Morse Lane, indicated by the Adopt-A-Road signs. Gloves, bags for trash and recycling, safety brochures and safety signs are provided free of charge from DPW. We are required to provide at least four clean-ups a year of this area and so we have a regular schedule for these clean-ups in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

ADOPT-A-POND
Thanks again to the many people who volunteered to be a part of our new Adopt-A-Pond team for Beachwood. Our community has 7 ponds, but all have not been turned over to us yet. So, we are hoping to start our first pond #3 & #3A near Blue Crab Court. Darin Crew of HRWA will be helping us plan a pond landscaping plan for Spring 2004. After all seven ponds are turned over to us, our hope is that the homeowners closest to each pond will maintain and monitor their pond.

What Adopt-A-Pond Involves: Remove unsightly vines and plants;
Remove trash; and inspect the pond annually to ensure proper drainage and prevent flooding; Why? Mosquitoes often breed in small pockets of water that collect in trash and debris. Your pond will look beautiful and neat with
landscaped plants and flowers; mulch is allowed, but plastic is not. Also, the ponds play a major role in your local creek's water quality (Back River) and plays a major role in keeping our air clean.

INCENTIVES:
Free trees, plants and other supplies; team leaders will receive a free rain barrel from living classrooms; The Herring Run Watershed Association will work with you one-on-one to:
1. Provide tools, materials, and technical expertise;
2. Help recruit volunteers and conduct events;

3. They can answer your questions at: www.herringrun.org
